Tattered and torn
A flag lies in the mud
Its standard broken
Surrounded by splintered spears,
shattered swords & crushed shields
Belonging to the vanguished defiant
A wounded man returns
His armor battered
His body busted
Covered in dirt and blood
Carefully he picks up the flag
Clearing off the mud
Reinforcing the shattered pole
A broken army rallies
Behind the battered standard of the defiant
Courage renewed
Curious and scared
Prying and poking
Starting to realize
It brings reprieve
Beaten into submission
Will and strength return
Mending inside
Crawling back up
Ressurected and refined
The spark relit
Salvation is mine
Indebted for eternity
Delivered from hell
Salvation is mine
You are
Thank the hag
She cured your cough
Burn the witch
She cursed your child
Thank the nerd
He solved your task
Bully the creep
He asked you out
Thank the poet
She moved your heart
Ignore the fool
She speaks of phantoms
Be yourself
Just like the others
Be different
Exactly the same
Improve yourself
No better than the others
All but the mediocre fail anyway
Staring in disbelief
At statements impossible
Confused, terrified at the small glimmer of hope
Pushing it away, drawing it close
Feeding the small spark, stamping it out
Closing doors shut, prying open a crack
Fearing the expected fall
It can not be more than hubris
Yet drawn to climb ever higher
Alien languages unknown
Arcane scribblings on a piece of paper
Clearly structured Unclear structure
Trying to order the chaos
Of missing and double pieces
Contradicting sentences and illogical statements
Expressing through broken sentences
Lacking the vocabulary
Ruining the grammar
Until understood
Sat in Darkness
Everything gray
Until the sun rises
Reached by rays of light
Ancient wings unfold
Trying to get higher
While tired bones complain
Desperate to reach that warmth
Before the inevitable fall
Back to that gray realm
Stuck in his room
Sitting there alone
Staring outside
Noone of interest
Of interest to noone
A tap on the window, barely audible
He barely notices
A tap on the window, barely audible
He glances up
A tap on the window, barely audible
Dancing in the corner a shadow
A tap on the window, barely audible
Ever so slightly he opens the window
Just enough to glance outside
Just enough to get a better look
Uncertain, with his hand on the lock
Ready to slam it shut again
Stuck in his room
Sitting there alone
Staring out into the world
Observing others
Some stay far
Some come close
Looking back at him through the window
Most forget him after long
Some stop and stare for a bit
A few tap on the glass
None dare to enter the room
All leave eventually
Grown bored of what few tricks he can do
And he is left
Stuck in his room
Sitting there alone
Staring out into the world
Eat, work, sleep
Endless on repeat.
Eat, work, sleep
Day in day out
Eat, work, sleep
The rhythm never changing
Eat, work, sleep
The same sound on end
Eat, work, sleep
No disharmony allowed
Eat, work, sleep
Secretly waiting
For the rhythm to be broken
Nothing to see
In the gray sea
No stars in the sky
In the gray sea
No fish below
In the gray sea
No islands on the horizon
In the gray sea
Just me
In the gray sea
Floating around
In the gray sea
Waiting a ship to pass by
In the gray sea
Or a fish to jump out waves
In the gray sea
Finally breaking the ever silent waters
In the gray sea
Tattered and torn
A flag lies in the mud
Its standard broken
Surrounded by splintered spears,
shattered swords & crushed shields
